About RANGBHOOMI

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFf-_IhaIf4

Synopsis: Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke

[30 April1870 - 16 February 1944] was an Indian producer/ director/ screenwriter, and also known as the father of Indian Cinema. Starting with his debut film, Raja Harishchandra in 1913, now known as Indian's first full-length feature film, he has made 95 movies and 26 short films in his career spanning 19 years, till 1937, including his most noted works: Mohini Bhasmasur [1913], Satyavan Savitri [1914], Lanka Dahan [1917], Shri Krishna Janma [1918] and Kaliya Mardan [1919].

In 1920, after disputes with his partners, he resigned from his then company Hindustan Films and shifted to the holy city of Benaras and renounced the world of cinema. At Benaras he wrote a semi-autobiographical play Rangbhoomi. This film is an invocation from that text.

About the Director

Kamal Swaroop graduated from the Film and Television Institute in 1974. He had a brief stint at ISRO, where he used Russian fairytales to teach science to kids, and then took filmmaking classes in a remote village in Maharashtra. He assisted the director Richard Attenborough in the filming of Gandhi (1982). Famously banned, a formal experimenter, the restored version of his masterful debut film Om Dar-B-Dar (1988) was released theatrically on 17 January 2014.
